Previous years I’ve had a long list of New Year’s Resolutions – marathon races, daily meditation, Spanish classes and homemade bread every Sunday. And it never worked.
This year’s different. I’ve only made one promise to myself – to face my fear. Fear can appear in any situation, even mundane ones like having a presentation or driving on the M25. It’s natural to feel fear; the trick is not to let it take control. If it does it can be paralyzing and stop you from reaching your full potential. I think fear of everyday things is a particular contributor to this. Fear of life is tangible, it’s considered “rational” and “acceptable”. But fear of negotiating with the nanny isn’t. But all of us experience it, hide it and try to ignore it. And at some point, when you’ve ignored enough “pieces” of fear they start to drag you down.
So I’ve promised myself: to acknowledge my fear, then take a deep breath, remind myself that I’m super woman and tell myself “I’ve got this”.
What’s your New Year’s resolution?
